Scoring: IMP

(2)--Pass--Pass--? ?

1) do you balance (ok yes)
2) What do you balance with? (Dbl, 3D, 2NT!!, something else)

For the record my choice was double, I planned on converting 3C to 3D, but was worried what I would do over 2NT by partner, since we were playing that 3D is like "super accept" for clubs should the lebenhsolish 2NT bid could be weak any of the side suits. I certainly don't want to encourage partner bidding on in clubs.

If you didn't have this funny agreement about the meaning of 3D over potential 2NT (weak) bid, does that make double more attractive. Have you any worries about partner passing a double given the opponents vul open bid and we are vulnerable so partner might have bid with good hand and spades?

Just wondering what is right and why.

I'd go with 3D, pass being a close second choice. With 1-2 in the blacks I would say balancing is automatic, but with 2-1 it wouldn't really shock me if pass was a winner. But pard could just have some balanced 13 or so where game is cold so I can't bring myself to do it. Over 3D though pard may have some 10 count and bid 3N though. At the table I would probably be able to guage whether RHO had anything or not so that would be better.

I find 3 automatic, I never played ELC so no other choice comes to my mind.

2) 3D, the safest bid

I nearly follow Justin, but prefer pass slightly to 3 .
He needs quite good points to make 3 NT playable.

I would bid 3 but be quite worried if partner raised this to 3N...

I don't think your strange Lebensohl agreement makes any difference, when you bid X 2N (Lebensohl) 3, you are showing a very strong hand in standard bidding.

Some people play better minor Lebensohl in this auction. You can double and convert if playing that since partner will bid 3 if he wants to play in clubs.

3 for me: I don't like ELC: a topic discussed in this forum beforel, and it is too dangerous to pass

3D. I don't like double on this shape even if playing ELC; partner is allowed to bid 4C over the double which we really wouldn't like.
