I changed a hand I held last week slightly to make it more of a problem (Maybe?):

Scoring: IMP

1D - (1S) - p - (2S)
3C - (3S) - ??

What's your call?

If you pass or double, what is your lead?
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I'd pass, partner could just have a not-so-great 5-5 (yes I know he freebid but he could do this fairly light). I would double them in MP.

These days 3 might be a bit LIGHT. Pass unless pard can be relied to have some extras.

If this ends in 3 (dbl or not), I'd try a non-standard lead of the Q.

I agree with Justin. The risk reward ratio does not justify this double at IMPs. I'm not 100% sure I'd double at MPs either,

I would have negative doubled the first round and passed now.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

OK, so I actually had Q1098 of spades, does this sway anybody towards the double?

It sways me towards double... but leaves me still just short of it.... I am with josh in that I always negative double these hands, btw, but I understand the pass.. I tend to negative double quite aggressively.

I would certainly double at mps with either hand, but I hate -730 so much that I will pass on the opportunity to get +500, at imps. I guess part of the reason is that I don't usually play with teammates who would ever be bidding this way and go for 500, so I am not worried about losing a bunch of imps by passing... and if the opps are the type who would go for 500, I probably don't need to win this board to win the match. While, if they are good, declarer knew that I would be sitting behind him with the long trump, after partner's 3 call.

I am leading a low club regardless.

Hi,

the only alternatives are pass or double,
so I answer your last question first, I would
lead a club.

I would most likely double, but it depends on
partnership agreement, if you play some kind
of Lebensohl / Good Bad in this situation, and
opener did choose to go via the weaker route,
I would pass, but it is close.

With kind regards

I doubled and got 800. Maybe knowing my partner (cherdano) and opponents (not posters here) was helpful.

I don't like to make a negative double with this hand but I don't feel strongly about it.

I don't hammer it unless there's some agreements along the lines of G/B 2NT at imps - Mike hits it on the head.

At MPs, it's only one board. I smack it and go for +200.

On the actual hand that would require some pathetic defensive play but it is possible.
