If 4 is the typical preemptive bid, I'm bidding 5 here. Too bad partner won't know about my longer clubs, but the suits are of about equal quality.

I would have started with 1C.

If I had started with 1C and the auction had continued like this, I would now cross my fingers and bid 4NT.

Agree with both posters. Having opened 1, I would bid 5 now.

But I would have opened 1 and I would bid 4NT over 4.

I'd bid 5 also because both could be making. However I think it's a lot more likely that both are down.

Hi,

#1 sure, I would I have started with 1C
#2 5C
If you would have started with 1C,
you could have bid 4NT, now you may
reach 5H, although 5C is better

With kind regards

Agree with Frances
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

I would have opened 1C and passed. Having opened 1H I would pass. We have a lot of defense and I'm willing to take my chances on defense since there's no guarantee we even get to the right suit if I bid now. Obviously we could be cold, but we could also be going for a fairly large number against a non making game. Color me pessimistic :P

I am joining the majority and follow Frances.
Even if both contracts are down, mayn opps don´t know this during the bidding and they like to defend on the 5. level green/red quite often.
Kind Regards

Roland

Yes. same here. Committing this hand to the 5 level with a pard that can't take a call over 1 looks rich.

Well, I don't believe in passing a 65, so I'm bidding 5.

Scoring: IMP

This was the full hand

West's overcall was eccentric.4has no chance.5X On correct defence should be -800.On a misdefence I could have escaped for -200 but misguessed and lost 500.
Other room played in 3 after the same 1 opening bid and made.

West's overcall was normal, not eccentric. I would have started with 1H and passed 4S
