bids I would like opinions on are 4 hearts (p did not like it, I did)

5 spades ( I think he should show full control of clubs) as the 5 spades seemed odd to me

feel free to say what you like

Pard knows he wants to play slam the moment he hears you bid 2 (unless one wants to argue that the moment was the 2 bid). His 4 was a very poor bid. 5 should have been his bid then. I'm not quite sure what his 5 bid was all about, but it's got to do with my unsureness about his 4 bid.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Hi,

First of all, I am not sure, I would reach 7H
with my regular partner, and I am pretty certain
you need some firm agreements to have a
chance to reach 7H without shooting it out.

#1 it is a matter of style, but you should
at least reflect a moment about bidding 2S
instead of 2D
The suit is certainly reasonable, you just miss
HCP power
#2 a 4C splinter, instead of 3H bid, describes
the North hand better, you have support and
a shortage
#3 a 5C bid instead of 4C is still an option, now
it would show a void
#4 the 4H is ok, you already showed slam with 3h
interest and you have shown your club control,
assuming that 3S did not promise
a spade honor, i.e. the 3S bid could be made
on a shortage, than the hand is to weak to go
beyond 4H, at least in my opinion
#5 5S should show 2nd round control, which is fine
as long as North knows, that South has the Ace and
not a void

With kind regards

It looks to me as if North took S's 4 as a natural bid and/or that he was unsure whether 5 could be taken as a natural bid. Or did North think that he already showed a first round control in clubs and now had to show the second-round spade control?

Maybe a 4 splinter over 2, followed by 5, would show they void. Of course the North hand is not ideal for a splinter (with those nice spades) but what can you do. Unless N responds 2 to 2. Was it the 4-card hearts that withheld him from that?

Anyway, agree Csaba that 4 was a bad bid.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

On a club lead you need spades to come in after only one ruff or to catch Qx of diamonds. That is a bad grand. If they lead a trump it is a good grand but 3-0 trumps still screw you, or 5-1 spades. Missing this one is not too bad.

As far as the auction, I think 4C instead of 4H was better, and I think 4H was a bad bid (hand was way too good). 5S was also a bad bid (5C was a much better bid over that).

I'd make a voidshowing jump to 4 over 2 (it shows a void in my methods). Really can't see how we'd miss this grand.
Kind regards,
Harald
