Hearts is probably our best fit (considering that 5-2 is better then 4-3) but the hearts are behind p. Even 1NTxx could be our best spot, considering that the long trumps would need to ruff diams. 2♥, 2♠ or 2♣ could either be better depending on p's suit qualities.

Pass, partner's guess is as good as anyone's.

Pass works as the cards lie if partner finds the spade switch in time (if he believes you have 2 hearts he will do it).


I tried 2♣ followed by redouble when RHO doubled this, to show willingness to play on any other suit.

Partner happilly bid 2♦ and LHO doubled for no reason, the defence started with 3 rounds of trumps and we scored +280.

If partner switches to spade on time you should be able to cash 1♠+4♥+2♣ after a ♥10 lead.

Who knows what a north that makes this double would do.
