Provide all that you can and take only what you need and leave the rest.

Nice post by mikeh.
The difference between theory and practice is that in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is.

sorry kenberg, mikeh. i considered what you said. you're probably right, but i'm going to say the below anyway. it goes to some very disturbing cultural trends here, which are being ignored in favor of mob mentality.

you people are amazing. you are almost all blind to the culture you are creating here. you allow a select few, for pitifully weak reasons, to dominate the tone of discussion, regardless of topic. you act as if these select few can say nothing wrong.

-someone complains that they take issue with a post
-that complaint is mocked
-I take vehement objection to the mockery

and there is a gang attack on me, how dare I agree that something can be offensive? how dare I take exception to the endemic mockery in this forum? i was loud and verbose, absolutely, because i am sickened by the attitude that was not only expressed, but is ignored by some and allowed to flourish by many.

and it's not even just by the MMS.

rather than make an effort to be considerate of the reasonable offense someone expressed, you act like a gang of wolves attacking those who do. almost universal refusal to actually examine the situation, an almost universal mob mentality, unwritten agreement to team up with the local powerful, because how dare you end up disagreeing with them! they might mock you next time you want to ask them a bridge question!

but that's no reason to be silent, and i'm not going to apologize for not. i'm not going to remain silent just because a few people reasonably think the argument isnt that big a deal. they're right, the argument isn't, but the greater issues that caused the argument are. i may have made enemies of half a dozen or more, but sometimes the list of one's enemies is the biggest badge of honor one can wear, and i submit with confidence that as regards this forum, that's the case.

whatever. post 279 i guess, my last one, because i don't care enough to try and continue to deal with such people, and what they have to offer as regards bridge isn't enough to deal with their pitifully wrong superiority complexes.

go ahead and have your party now, i'm out.
I constantly try and "Esc-wq!" to finish and post webforum replies.

Finally we can all agree on some things you say!

Ok, that time I don't believe you.

You realize you got virtually no response to your last post, mostly because I didn't care enough to completely tear it to shreds (well ok, in everyone's mind but yours), so you felt the need to continue your tirade as a response to the post that merely asked everyone to cease their tirades, since there was nothing further that was actually objectionable for you to respond to. I mean, think about that! And all when your arguments consist entirely of:

- Calling every post you have a dispute with 'pitiful' or some version of that multiple times, but your points 'reasonable' or something similar. Which, by the way, creates the opposite impression in the mind of the reader.
- Claiming your own rules on when offending people is fine.
- Insulting the entire community at once (we sure are amazing people).
- Asserting the right and the need to shower us with your greater truths.
- Claiming that everyone not liking your or caring what you say is a badge of honor (half dozen lol).

Enjoy your vacation from the thread. I'm sorry that our conduct is not conforming to your greater good, but hopefully we can all find a way to go on.

Well it's good to see you don't care much :)

Dude on a serious note just take a step back and chill. It's just an internet message forum. I really hope you are ok and don't try to hurt yourself or anyone else over any of this because it's not worth it. If you ever want to talk about anything then I would be glad to listen to you, Good luck.

i've stayed out of this, for the most part, but i have to ask - just who do you think you are? the arbiter of cultural trends? people who disagree with you do so because they're hallucinating, because they're in the midst of some sort of mob mentality? does that seem even slightly arrogant to you?

wow... which select few? which pitifully weak reasons? should posters run their ideas past you first to see if the reason(s) behind those ideas are suitably strong and meet your standard of cultural relevance?

i have no idea who you are, but having read a *lot* of posts on this forum i can honestly say that the above paragraph is the most judgmental one i've read in quite a while
"Paul Krugman is a stupid person's idea of what a smart person sounds like." Newt Gingrich (paraphrased)

interesting, we just lost a poster, quite an articulate inteligent one from what I could see, (some may think a good thing, some may not) personally I do not agree with some of his views and I am sure he does not agree with some of mine.

One thing for sure, maybe we are all guilty of causing some of the crap in here and should look no further than the mirror to see who is to blame.

I think there is a gang mentality on here, but I do not blame the two posters that were named in the MAS, I prefer the expression the forum elite, but they know who they are, I realise that some in here probably ignore some of my posts, so they wont read this, but I am sure that finally17 was not the first bullied or plain frustrated out the forums and wont be the last.

I think maybe tollerance is missing here, something a lot of us should make a greater effort to try and have, maybe the thread Uday started about standards was for a good reason, maybe, if some accept they are over the top and others accept not everyone has such high standards as them selves, we would not lose other posters, I am not on a moral high horse here, I have nothing to be proud of with some of my posts, but I know there is something I can do personally to improve the perceptions of the forums, for newcomers, something I think we all owe Fred and Uday a bit of respect for what they give us.

I for one will try and curb my frustrations (be that lack of written skills or just plain disrespect for some one elses attitude, maybe if some of us take a step back and read some of the threads from an objective stance, we may realise what a load of idiots some of us look

My apologys to anyone that cares enough to realise I am genuine in this and I will try and have more respect for others opinions in the future
