So the 3 NT bidders do bid 3 NT with this nice 14 HCPs hand and with

AQ, Ax, KQx,AKJTxx they bid.... 3 NT?

GL pd to figure this out.

So the passers do pass with this nice 14 HCPs hand and with

xxxx xxx xxx xxx they bid..... pass?

GL pd to figure this out.

Pass due to too many soft values. Make the singleton/doubleton Q's aces or kings and I'd bid 3NT. Also, you're vulnerable. It's very easy to concede several hundred undoubled.

Partner will be passing too many hands where we are cold for 3NT. So I guess 3NT , the real issue being what to do over DBL by LHO Pass Pass

If I'd been doubled in 3NT I'd definitely pull to 4.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

1. I hope Partner can read my pass and later bids much easier then my 3 NT now and trying to slow him down later. But sure there may be a problem for him to understand in time whether I have an yarb or this nice hand.

2.There is a borderline somewhere and I agree with Adam, that this hand is not so far away from (my personal) minimum 3 NT.

But then again: Pd is known to have at most 2 Spades and he can still bid.

So which hands do you fear where partner will pass 3 Spade and 3 NT is a good game?

xx, KJxx, Axxx,Qxx? Will he pass? If he does, we miss a game.

I believe that the 4. Spade is a significant difference. It makes it nearly impossible for pd to hold spade length which makes it very clear that he will reopen if he has at least some values.

If you agree of course that pd needs more then the example hand to reopen, you need to take some risk now.
Kind Regards

Roland

I agree it's pretty close and bidding is very agressive. I was just pointing out that there was no point to arguing the way you were. Obviously partner will not be assuming we have powerful 23 counts with game in hand.

Can there be a more clear pass than this?

I think you should just create a shortcut key for that comment since it's your response to every thread :)

Well, it's this thinking:

that makes preempts like this so effective.

I voted for 3NT a while ago, without any special confidence.

I suppose if readers have a favourite, they might warm to a particular post.
