As North I would pass then. Might be wrong.

Looking at the two hands we seem to have a suitable dummy for a 4♠ bid but it is not completely clear we will win 10 tricks.
I believe that the USA currently hold only the World Championship For People Who Still Bid Like Your Auntie Gladys - dburn
dunno how to play 4 card majors - JLOGIC
True but I know Standard American and what better reason could I have for playing Precision? - Hideous Hog

I could understand South not doubling (3 aces and 2 Jacks?) but I would hardly inderstand North passing the double. 4♠ by South is an individual/bad bridge decision in my opinion.

4♠ with North (good ♠ suit, some shape,4♠ over 4♥ often right).
For me both calls are obvious.

I think that I would product the followig auction
Mark me down in double, followed by 4♠ contingent
Too much strength in partners suit for me to want to pass

I vote with Wayne. Yeah you can make 4♠ and it is an easy decision to say you would X and bid 4♠ seeing partner's hand. You could also be walking into a double. All you really should know is that partner is a passed hand. So I blame the OP 100% for a bad poll

I dont think the suit quality is good enough to consider 4S.
And even after a 4S bid, 4S should get passed out.

Ever heard about "4H is a transfer to 4S"?
Sry, we have 14HCP - mainly prime values, and a suitable shortage,
why on earth should I pass?
The only reason I can think of, that makes pass a distant possible
option is, that you happen to play a style, who basically always opens
flat 11 counts, e.g. if you play a 10-12 NT opening bid.
But even than this just may mean, that they can make 4H, and 4S is
a cheap sacrifice.
With kind regards

(pssst - IRL, these high level takeout doubles get taken out a lot more than at BBF).
