Scoring: IMP

Competent but oldfashioned opponents bid uninterrupted:

1NT - 2
3 - 6

1NT = 15 -17
2 = Two-way Stayman
3 = 5-cards

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

The trouble is you may control both :)

I'll lead a small heart, although like Free, I want to lead a spade, but it seems the risks outweigh the possible gain.

let's see what we can eliminate from consideration first. I'm rarely a fan of a singleton trump lead and certainly not in this auction. Partner did not double 2 nor make a Lightner so look very suboptimal to me. That leaves one of the majors and I prefer to try and set up a setting trick so I lead a

I think in this hand the wish not to blow a trick is bigger then the need to creat a trick right now.

So I try a passive heart.

I know I would lead a spade so that's what I vote for. I think of leads like this the same as I do hitting on 16 at blackjack. People get selective memory disorder since it fails in spectacular fashion a fair amount of the time, but I believe an objective analysis shows it's the lead most likely to be the winner.

Btw fluffy maybe dummy doesn't have a 4 card suit. Maybe he was about to show a slam invitation/force with just clubs. At least the way I understand 2-way stayman is it could be the start of any game-forcing or better hand, no 4 card major required.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.
