Blew off the afternoon to play in the club. Here's a few of the less mundane:

What's the vul on the first one? I see E/W vul and dealer "both" so I don't know what that means. I would double at any vul so I guess it doesn't matter that much. I expect to be able to get a tap going if they stay in hearts. If they go to clubs I want partner to feel encouraged to double them, and if he can't I'll bid 4S.

The last one is the most obvious pass ever, it seems like any experienced bridge player should have seen this before. 6 of the worst points ever is not a 1N bid.

Definitely like double at both vul then, game is no lock our way with bad splits and we might have them crushed,, edit ok now its both

Double on (1) and pass on (3) will be unanimous.

2 is more interesting, with KJxx of clubs and partner probably having honors fourth of spades and little else, I would like to lead passively. The spade jack doesn't seem like a passive lead though, it can easily blow a trick, for example when dummy has AQxxx and RHO 10x.

I'll go with a heart, it might even set up a trick.

I'd lead a diamond on the second one, because a heart is too likely to cost a trick.

Maybe a spade is right, because it's even more passive, but I've already led from Jx once this decade.

On the first, I'm skeptical if partner is going to sit for the double. He held AQJTxx, Q, K9xx Jx (RHO held: 9, KJ9xx, x, AKQxxx). The tap on the surface looks pretty effective but doubling warns declarer of the bad split and 3♥ rolls with best play. It gets complicated and who knows what a club player would do - some of my friends got some large numbers out of 4♥ and 5♥.

I bid 3♠ and pard raised to 4. Obviously I wasn't sure about this one, which is why I posted.

On the 2nd, I led a spade which turned out pretty well but we got screwed since they played a great 3N on:

OK I confess I bid a sick 1N. No real reason for it and it didin't work out well when partner rebid 3♠ on his 6322 15 count.

11 tricks are cold as they lie, even on a passive spade or diamond lead: four rounds of diamonds, two rounds of spades, club to the 10. If South has a third spade to exit with, you still have a strip-squeeze against him, but you have to read the ending.

Partner heard you overcall 1D right? He's certainly not going to sit for 3HX.

Unlucky. Of course you can't all have the spade jack.

Well, at least partner's underbidding let you out in 3S.
