Scoring: MP

Submitted by: Hanoi5

Bidding Script: East opens a weak 2 and west, if possible, raise to 3 (alert: "nonconstructive").

Hanoi Comments: East opens with a weak 2S and West raises to 3S. E/W hold the minors which always present problems and in this case, with the 5-4 fit being hard to find, the final contract might be far from the best available. 6C, 10; 6D, 6; 5C/5D, 5; 7C, 4

As usual, he scores above are not necessarily the ones I used.

Clear 6 over 2, wtp?
I once yelled at my partner for discarding the 'wrong' card when he was subjected to a squeeze that I allowed by giving the wrong count with too high a card. Now he's allowed to pitch aces when the opponents have the king in the dummy. At trick 2. When he could have followed suit. And blame me.

Han chose to double 2S which I like (I think the hand is too good to bid 3D, and even if partner bids 4H you can correct it to 5D pretty comfortably so it doesn't seem all that risky).

Yeah, it was actually a X by South (me), then 4, then after partner made a gutsy 5 bid I tried 6 and got lucky. Is that a viable sequence or should 6 be forcing?

I wasn't happy when I bid 3, but I was when the auction didn't die obviously. It's close between Dbl and 3 imo, since I had much distribution and a void I thought that either LHO would raise, or I'd have a misfit with partner, so it's safe enough.

Everything is viable in love, war and bidding contests.

Having said that, I think that 3D is so far removed from good bridge that I would still call it absurd. I also saw somebody bid 3S which also doesn't seem right, the diamond suit is too open and the clubs are too strong.

After my double and 4D Justin had a really awkward decision. He bid 4H. Can't say I like it, but I don't like any of the alternatives either. Now I chose 5C and he had an easy 6C.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

I thought this was a very good auction, one of the best I saw in the competition.

Not sure why you are not as happy!

It's not that I know a better sequence, these two hands just were very awkward.

It seems strange to me when a diamond slam which is less than 50% outscores the diamond game by so much.
