Scoring: MP

Submitted by Hanoi5

Bidding Script: West opens 1 after which EW are out of the bidding.

Hanoi comments: "After West opens the bidding, N/S will find difficult to choose the strain (NT/D) and the level (part-score/game) and a little more so if North overcalls 1NT on this atypical 4333, for the methods may not be enough to get to the right contract. 3D, 10; 4D, 7; 5D, 5; 1NT, 6; 2NT, 5; 3NT, 3"

What is atypical about a 1N overcall with the North hand

Our auction was

(1) - 1N - (P) - 2N
(P) - 3 - (P) - 3N

we expect all sorts of company

Hanoi may be saying he thinks the hand isn't strong enough to overcall 1NT -- a sentiment with we agree, although we did bid 1NT at the table. It seems a little hard to stay out of 3NT after that, so we imagine Richard is right about having a lot of company there.

I didn't have a diamond invite available so just bid 2NT as south. I considered simply signing off in diamonds. It's clear to me that simply bidding 3NT must be wrong in a bidding contest.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

I considered overcalling 1S or X since it was a bidding contest, but my first attempt at that was to open 3C on board 1 and miss an easy grand, so I decided I suck at operating in this thing so I'll play it straight lol.

The values in are not good enough to consider 3NT, even if partner super accepts. I decided to bid 3NT because it was a bidding contest, but it didn't work. :D

Be amused if anybody gets to 4 at MPs, assuming, possibly rashly, that opener has both aces, you need little more than a 2-2 diamond break and 4-3 spade break to make 4 and outscore 5.
