Scoring: MP

Submitted by Hanoi5

Bidding Script: East overcalls 1 after which East-West stay out of the auction.

Hanoi Comments: "11. East overcalling 1H after North’s opening bid could create a problem for pairs who play 1S as showing 5 cards unless they re-evaluate their hands and start thinking about NT (which is not as easy as it sounds). The bad trump support, the 10 of Hearts and the good 6-card suit should help though and we might find some pairs getting to the top spot. 3NT, 10; 2NT/3S, 7; 4S, 5"

AT of hearts and Qx of clubs, both positive declarer-values, suggested to us rebidding 2D rather than 2S. After that, 3NT was easy: responder raised to 3D, and opener converted.

I can't remember our auction but we got to 3NT after 1 (1) X. I have a new theory going that it's always right to make a negative double holding 5 spades in a bidding contest. It's 2 for 2 in this contest ;)

Wait or did we get to 4 by north, I can't remember. Maybe it was 4 by north which is a little better than by south at least. Yeah I think it was something ridiculous like

1 (1) X
2 2NT
3 4
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

We had a couple chances to get to 3N on this one

I could have opened a weak NT which would have made life easy. I chose to open 1S showing an unbalanced hand with 4+ Diamonds.

Free bid 2 showing 5+ spades and I rebid 2S showing Hx or xxx in Spades.

Free rebid 2N and I put us in Spades since I liked my Aces...

4S by north is definitely better than 4S by south.
