Hand Evaluation what to bid?

I'm treating this as 18 I think, while you have a lot of honours in the short suits, you have a decent number of touching honours which is good news, so 1♣ then 2N.
Makes me very glad I play what I do, I can open 1♣ playing a weak no trump and make a (wide range) 1N rebid.

Thanks for the input, glad to hear how different people evaluated the hand. As you can see, I decided to open 1NT and found a big enough hand with partner to not even be invited. Sadly, on the spade lead and terrible club positioning, I couldn't avoid 2 club losers, 2 spade losers, and one diamond loser (maybe a better player could have, but I don't see how).

You had 28 HCP and went down in 3NT? Stay in the B/I forum because you must be really bad.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

Just in case han's sarcasm isn't clear I am pretty sure you can't make this even looking at their cards. You can give them a chance to defend incorrectly but that's about it (duck some tricks and when rho is in if he doesnt play a club through lho will get squeezed in hearts and clubs).

Yes sometimes when suits go very badly you go down in good contracts, that is an important lesson.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

Yeah...it almost matches my worst MP game ever. Somehow while actually trying to do well I managed a 27.5% game. Must have been a lot of hands like this.

But it has nothing to do with hand evaluation. Whether you open 1♣ or 1NT, you will end up playing 3NT going down.

if you play with a hogging partner you might end up in 3NTN after opening 1C in the south, which has better chances on the spade lead

Actually on BBO it is pretty common to respond with 1NT on north hand (on 1♣ opening by south). For some reason many people think they need FIVE card to respond 1-over-1 in a suit. And they sometimes win (like in this hand).
