Now for the rest of the story.

This was the hand, and with clubs splitting and the king on side, and hearts behaving, it made six.

Jilly was North, Ben was south, and EW's slam close to the end of the event knocked us out as no one else bid it (or if they did, didn't make it) and we got an absolute zero.

Such is life. We had gotten some gifts in other sessions we played. If this had gone down. I was not at all pleased with the opponents auction, but perhaps late in teh session they needed a top and East tried first an underbid then an overbid on the same hand. Anyway it worked for them.

4 would also be my bid.

whether E wants to probe for slam is more open for discussion....and Blackwood is certainly not the best tool here, with singleton in P's color. Most important is to find some spot cards in . But how to find ?
No, slam try cannot be the best option.

without seeing your hands, I don't think 6H is a ridiculous contract at all. It requires either less than perfect defense, or the K of clubs onside. Bad luck that nobody else got there.

32% is perhaps not quite ridiculous. The bidding that got them there was, however.

How are you getting 32%?

Club king onside, 3-3 break and 3-2 break comes to about 12% but there are some extra chances so maybe 15%.

Depending on my partner's EAST rebid: 1H 1S 3C 3S (which would cause an argument) 4H P (which would cause another argument if 6H makes)

1H 1S 3H (would expect a better suit) 4H 4N (partner loves 2 suited hands even without a fit) 5H 6H

The same auction as presented ending up in 6H.

One problem was your methods. Standard methods don't have enough ways to describe hands after 1H-1S auctions. You could adopt the Gazzilli convention. Playing Gazzilli, opener has an easy 3C rebid promising approx 14-16 HCP and 5-5 or better in the rounded suits. After that descriptive beginning the auction should go smoothly.

Playing standard methods, I like 2C better than 2H. Partner is more likely to keep the auction open over 2C than over 2H and it has the side benefit of allowing partner to evaluate more accurately opposite this hand.

Finally, as others have commented 4H is a clear overbid. Responder's hand is worth no more than 3H.
