During the play it was revealed that declarer had 5♣and two rounds of ♠ were played.
GIB when it got in gave a ruff and discard rather than cash two winners♦.
I assume that is because GIB assumes opening 1NT with a 2425 shape is heresy and
it therefore assumed declarer was 2335?

Why would GIB expect opener to reply 2♥ to Stayman with only 3H? Do you have a link to the hand?

Well because it's actual defense of giving a ruff and discard was 100% guaranteed to let the contract through, if declarer had 4 hearts
whilst attempting to cash two ♦s would have worked on the actul hand. Declarer was within range for a 15-17 NT.
