Team game, expert opponents and partner.

2* 5+minor less than 1 opener.

What would you bid ? Please explain why.

Just watched this too in the 2Q of Monaco / Bjarnarson.

It's either 3 or 4 for me. I don't like double because I'm likely to hear a 4 call on my left, and partner won't know I have these nice hearts.

I'll go low with 3.

3 seems obvious. 4 is a flyer.

3H for me also. Not a double which hides these hearts and 4H is an overbid.

As I play the 3S Q-bid shows the other major
and an up-going hand with S-single/void, 3S.
When else am I going to show this control to
allay partner's fear of 6H off 2xS-losers.
Now he is encouraged to 5D with H:Qx, D:Kxxxxx, etc.
Anticipate 4S trying to shut out our slam try -
get it in now with little overbid.

This was a hand from Spingold, Sementa decided to overcall 3, Duboin after a long thought passed with a borderline decision and 3.

3 was commented to be a VERY conservative action, while i thought it was very normal. I thought DBL would have problems especially if LHO raises , due to not having quality to rebid at 4 level by our own. Same goes for 4 overcall imo.

If you get a fit in front 4 has good play if not you might be in a world of trouble

bbo commentators rarely miss good games or bid bad ones. they're also very good at guessing 2-way finesses.

I don't think 3H is obvious here. This hand is very powerful if partner holds good H fit but poor HCPs. H Kxxx and doubleton D would give it a very good play in 4H. xxxx Kxx Kxx xxx would also offer good plays in 4H and it is certainly not clear to raise here. In that sense, double would gain if partner bids 2NT as leb, over which, you can comfortably bid 3H to show the suit and the strength of this hand and allow partner to have better evaluations of his cards.
Of course, double can be bad sometimes, the worst case is that partner may pass this double with marginal hands and with some H support. Or opp bid 4S over the double. Even if you overcall 3H, if opp bids 4S, you may not feel very good either.

3H is not a preempt over a preempt; and in my world it is not even a mere 1H opening bid with short spades which feels compelled to "do something". So, 3H with this hand is just fine.

3H is totally normal, Even with the Q of clubs instead of the J I would bid 3H.
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

Some commentators have DD vision when evaluating hands, others don't even have a GIB button during the play.

3 is perfectly normal imo.
