teams (IMP's)

- what do you think of the bidding. (1st time partners. we didn't have a lot of agreements. Only that new suit by opener we forcing. 3 would have been mini-splinter).
- How do you play after 2 lead?

try Q at trick 2 and see what happens.

I win K and try a heart fineses, then test hearts pitching a club and come to hand with Q to run black winners.

Thanks for the answer!
This is what I did. I wondered if it was best.
I thought that I needed 2 S ticks and the H finesse to come to 12 Tricks.
So I played the SQ first and when a S was returned I took the H-finesse.
When that hold I still needed D or H to be 3-3.
Remark: It looks a bit like a D-H squeeze but it is in fact not. But there is an additional chance of a squeeze if 4cH and 4cD and CQ are with West...Is that correct?
(Not a Good 6NT in fact).

fluffy has the best lop a miniscule chance at a squeeze
plus depending on 1 of 2 suits to break 33 is better than
a finesse of dia T increasing the odds of taking 5 dia tricks.

My main problem is with the bidding

Systemically 1h 1s 2d are all fine but after 3n how about a simple
4d bid which invites slam and allows p to sign off in 4n with
no fit and no extra values??

After 4d p knows of at least ten cards in red suits and odds of a club
fit plummet so even with half way decent club suit if is difficult to imagine
6 with no fit anywhere and a max of around 31 hcp. Sign off in 4N (cue bid to
go for slam)

The best line in the diamond suit alone is to finesse the Ten. This might not allow you to check for Hearts 3-3 (you'll block diamonds and need the Hearts as a re-entry). I prefer the Diamond finesse to th Heart finesse - at least if thee Diamond finesse wins you'll most likely have 5 diamond tricks.

So I'd play a diamond to the Ten at trick two and then play a spade.

dave: the diamonds only give you 11 tricks at most.

Well it's not my fault - I wouldn't have bid the slam! But I don't understand your point - taking the Heart hook requires hearts to be 3-3 or a squeeze. Taking the diamond hook requires the heart hook (or if I choose a squeeze). Neither finesse gives you 12 tricks.

Probably the Heart hook is better - you make if diamonds or hearts are 3-3 or if LHO has 4-4 in the reds. But I reckon it'd be close (I don't have a calculator handy - oops bad excuse I'm on a computer ... okay I'm just lazy ...)

Frankly, I would play W for the Q of hearts, Q of clubs, and J of diamonds based on the spade lead on this auction. It looks like he's trying to be passive, but he's chosen to lead into S's only known suit, implying that he has stuff in everything else.

edit: Wow, mistook the lead, ignore me. But seriously, don't claim a black 2 lead and then put both place twos in the diagram.
