Why play the Ace of diamonds perphaps GIB is in love with the Queen!

So by winning with Queen, should play 4 to ensure East having 3 tricks in Diamonds. If put Queen, then pick up Ace, it can't proceed with Diamonds as declarer will have 3 trics in suit and EW just two.

It doesn't put contract on risk, just thinking for most tricks to get.

So GIB picked just to put the first to be won by dummy following that plan.

By having 108xxx there is no difference how GIB plays the suit. Declarer always will take three out of five cards.
