(1m) 2m (P) ?

I had an(other) interesting hand last night playing with a bbf'er, no agreements.

Do you have any special follow ups to Michaels.
2M is obviously a minimim bid but what are your other bids?

Mike Lawrence has been doing a pretty good job in the ACBL Bulletins lately on this subject. His teachings are obviously not the only way to handle continuations, but certainly adequate.

For us, at least, the most important start is for the bid itself to have 5+5+ in the two suits; otherwise advancer cannot be comfortable bouncing to 3M for preemptive value, which should happen frequently.

(1D) 2D (P) ?

Assuming the 2D promises at least 5-5 in the majors, then we play:

2M minimum
2NT high card invite or better in hearts
3C natural to play
3D high card invite or better in spades
3M pre-emptive, usually 4-card support
3NT to play

others don't really exist, although I could invent meanings for them

1C 2C P similar, but
2D = tell me your better major

You could also use (1) - 2 - (P) - 2NT as an asking relay, then (for example) 3 = min with equal or better hearts, 3 = min with better spades, 3 = max with equal or better hearts, 3 = max with better spades, 3NT = strong variant with no void, 4m = strong variant with void in m.

Another option would be to use this 2NT response as a puppet to 3, either to play there or bid on, say 3 asking for better major and 3M setting trumps to ask for cue bids. 3 is now free for the good heart raise.
