When you don't know if 3 is forcing, my advice is to try another auction, and afterwards ask partner: if I had doubled and pulled 3 to 3, would that have been forcing?

Which is why I am bidding 4 and pulling 4 to 4. This is a stronger sequence than just jumping to 4, and my hand warrants that even tho my spade suit should/could be stronger.

Double, while takeout, is sometimes left in...picture Ax AKxxx Qxx xxx...with 4 likely tricks on defence, no fit for your suit, and nothing extra in hearts (where you have denied a primary fit via double) isn't this the time to take one's plus? Lest you say that that gives preempter nothing....he is w/r.

So I don't like double anyway. Or am I being too old-fashioned about this sequence? it wouldn't be the first time.

I would take 3 as forcing - after I doubled.

When I said this was "A Hand From Last Night", I wasn't kidding. It came to me in a dream. I do that sometimes.

Here was the layout:

For some reason, I passed 3 (??!!) and somehow we beat it 3 tricks. At the time, I felt like I was dumping to this pair, but it turned out to be an average plus, as the room ended up in spades a lot of the time going set.

I need to stop eating before bed.

If you can remember a hand with all the spots, both yours, your pd's and opponents hands, from a dream ! Including the field results... I think you have serious problems/skills and thats not eating before bed bro! :P

Spots are approximate. I also defend hands better in my dreams than I do IRL I see :)

hands in my dreams never have 13 cards each, or if they do somehow they get to a silly contract, like 7 off AKJ9x but after I lead I realice some stupid spot such as 3 is duplicated with dummy and the hand must be averaged.
