So, ruffing high on Trick 3 is to protect against an 8-1 club split... Even if that is a reasonable play, wouldn't it be right to draw trump by cashing the K first, rather than taking a first-round finesse?

If the simulation has an 8-1 club break, the contract is doomed anyway as South must get 2 heart tricks so GIB loses all morale and plays badly for even more down.
