As it happens, the auction (well, clubs, not diamonds) occurred yesterday. My hand:
This is absolutely the least I would have. Partner made 2NT although it could have been set. I was prepared to apologize. I upgraded the 8 count because of the heart Queen.
I like to play this call as constructive but not forcing. Basically, it means that I think that I am likely to have a play for making 2
♣.. I don't think it denies having ten points. A redouble shows ten points, but that is different from saying that the lack of a redouble denies ten points. For example, change my club 4 to a club Queen. Do I really want to redouble? I am not planning on doubling their spades for penalties at either the one level or the two level. I favor getting my suit in right now. If partner has a modest club fit we can contest 2
♠ with 3
♣, and then if they go on in spades I might well consider (if holding the club Q instead of the club 4) doubling. This last thought applies at matchpoints I think.
