Do you take any action in first seat? It has good playing strength in this hand if a minor fit is found, and if you obey the Rule of 20,you need 1♦ opening, even if with 9hcp,really?

Pass and hope to come in with 2N or bid 1♦, I'd likely bid but I've been accused of opening on thin air before.
btw I dislike the rule of 20.

If I had an "unusual NT" kind of opener I'd do that, but I usually don't, so this is a pass for me.

Then clubs the next chance I have. If they get high, then double by me will show another suit (for us). In case partner wants to defend.
Very much a matter of style, my partner and I strongly prefer to not pass with a hand this interesting. Of course we play the vanilla weak 2 in diamonds which many do not so that makes it easier.

Would love to have a 5-8 HCP 2N minor suit 55 opening bid in my arsenal....
KS had it right years ago - opening minor suit hands at the 1 level needed extra strength or extra length. This hand has length but opponents likely have the major. Let's get in their way now.

I would hate that, as it would seem to be more of a misdescription than 1♦.
I think this hand is really tough BTW, I am still not convinced as to whether 1♦ or pass is better.
