I think that this is a good problem because I consider 2S, 2NT and 3C all reasonable. I voted for 2NT, second choice 3C. Playing with fluffy I would probably have to pass.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Good question

Personally, I am torn between Pass, 2NT, and 2♠

I wouldn't be particularly upset if partner chose any of these bids.
I suspect that I would bid 2NT and prefer pass to 3C.

Tough. 3♣ and 2NT are both very sensible. I would probably choose the normal 3♣, although I can see how 2N can work out a lot better on some hands (we may find the 4-4 spade fit or play the better partial, limit our hand etc. On the other hand partner may upgrade his hand because of his long diamonds or get us too high). I dont consider pass, 2♠ or double.

I'd probably bid 2NT. Not with full confidence because we might be wrongsiding the contract (partner having ♥Qx for example), but alternatives don't look much better. 2♠ runs the risk of getting a very bad trump split, passing might get us in trouble if partner reopens, and I don't like to overcall a minor at 3-level with such a crappy suit either.

2N looks completely normal to me. It gets us to our two most common games, 3N and 4S, and is right on values. I see the extra club instead of an extra small diamond as a bonus to the playing strength, as I have a potential source of tricks now too.

why would you pass 3♣, most play sys on so 3♣ has 4♠ youve just lucked out can bid 3♠

Should have been more clear.

I prefer passing the original 2♥ opening to making a 3♣ overcall
(Didn't realize until now that things could be misread like that)

I went for 2NT wich seems tolead for the best games, however it didin't work for slam purposes.

Partner had

♠Kxx
♥x
♦AK9xx
♣Qxxx

opponents stayed silent and partner bid 3NT endind the auction, I don't think he should move but maybe others disagree.

EDIT partner had only 5 diamonds
