had this hand come up in bidding session on BBO
was wondering how other would bid this

I just bid 4NT as I thought this would be about only way to bid grand
even though it breaks rules on bidding 4NT on void

2-3 shows a solid suit where I come from.

2-3-4-5(exclusion) would be my plan.

How about 2-3, as suggested, but now after 4 you bid 4. Partner may or may not know what you are doing, but I bet his nest call is 4 if he has the ace. I guess more importantly, if he bids 4 I think that he has the ace. I don't think that some sort of temporizing Last train bid is reasonable after this beginning of the auction.

That works, but if you have a chance to bid exclusion Blackwood, you have to use it.

The cue bid route is better, though. After 4-4-4, you can use regular RKCB and get to 7NT. I have gone off twice on an opening ruff recently with 7NT cold, and I am getting sick of it!

was playing a variation of Aces Scientific or 2/1 game force
so 2 showed 2/3 top honors....so 3should show 5+ suit with top honors
so I was thinking on kcb if partner has4 keycards then the grand should be ok

These hands are seldom enough that it must not be the first priority to handle, however, I play transfers here and bid 3 ... Not in this hand, but sometimes it pays to make partner declarer if you have "just" a solid suit.
In the given scenario, I would bid 3 , which is not passable.
If partner now bids 3 NT, I bid 7 or 4 NT if I am sure that this is Blackwood. I guess 5 won't be exclusion here for you, else this would be the plan.
If he bids 4 I try 5 exclusion if avaiable or 4 NT blackwood if this is our tool.
If he bids 4 I try 4 NT Blackwood too
If he bid soemthing else, I may just bid 7 again.
Kind Regards

Roland

One possible cautionary tale.

I recall partner opening 2 off
or similar where you can't actually make 5 on a heart lead from the queen, so it doesn't pay to get too optimistic just yet. Would be possibly the only time ever a 2 bidder showed no key cards to exclusion.

3S now.

2S already showed a good 5 carder, 3S should now be 6+.

Depending on your agreements, 3S or (4C) from partner should set trumps for the time being,
since you have Jx in partners suit, you dont mind playing clubs, if he instists on clubs,
I would not bother with making up agreemens like 3S over 2C, until I solved other more urgent
problems with my game.
