Sorry I misvoted, should be 1H instead of pass (I missed that we're in 3rd).

gotta get that lead-director in, and make them start bidding defensively instead of constructively. 1. Distant 2nd choice 2.

If its good enough to overcall with, then its good enough to open 3rd seat.

If you choose 1H, are passing partner's 1S response? Of course, sometimes opponents will take you off the hook, but partner's 1S response is 4+ cards.

I would bid 2D over 1S... If partner rebids 2NT, I pass. This is the absolute worst case scenario. Usually when we are inordinately weak, opps do not pass so meekly. Or if they do, maybe they are similarly cooperative in defence as well.

Yes. This is the opponent's deal, and at least I have the JT.

I'd pass 1S, too. The sooner partner knows I'm minimum the better.

2H or Pass. 1H is a distant third choice.

A short (10 board) simulation yield a win for 1 1.3 imps/bd over pass and 2.2 imps/bd over 2.

I'm probably missing something but is this not as standard a Weak 2 as you could possibly get?

What you're missing is the 6th . However, this is a standard weak 2 in 3rd seat for many of us here.

NV I'm opening this hand 2 in 1st seat, so it seems perfectly fine in 3rd at equal.

I'm sorry I don't have any simulations or journal articles to back this up.

I think you got the auction wrong on hand 3, and the play wrong on hand 6.

Opening 2 is asking for trouble. I'll open 1 and rebid 1NT if partner responds 1. He'll expect 11 to a bad 14, so he won't invite, even when holding a max.

I really don't like 2H. Not only is it just extremely dangerous esp when vul with this hand, but it will more likely than not get them to play the hand well if they play our partner for the other honors.

1H is less dangerous (esp if playing strong club implies lightish openings...specifically if partner is unlikely or won't have a balanced 11 that will bid 2N in some auctions) imo, but will also screw them up in the play much more since they will be more likely to play you for honors and misguess the hand.

1H also has the same lead directing benefits of 2H, the only thing it misses is the direct preemption being more likely to make them land in a bad spot (esp if it's a partscore hand). I don't think this benefit has enough upside to compensate for the downsides, but others might disagree obviously.

I would either pass or bid 1H, depending on a variety of factors, but I would usually bid 1H.

Is not pass allowed on this one, I assume pard is expert.

--

to win do we need to very often open 1h or 2h and lose with pass?

If pass here is losing bridge, should not that be taught as standard?

I mean look at all the posts that dont pass. the major vote is nonpass.

 knew I was missing something ;)

Still would open this with 2even with 5 but can see why others wouldn't :)
