Are N/S and E/W playing identical systems? E/W assumes that they are. If that assumption is flawed then weird results are to be expected.
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

I am sorry but there are no excuses for GIB here, opponent's bidding notwithstanding. With its balanced 12 count there is no justification for either of E's doubles. As for W, if he was talked out of Clubs surely Diamonds could have been mentioned. Mind you I have never played against the robots with a live partner but that changes nothing I said.

East's X of 2♦ shows that he holds exactly 2 diamonds? That's the only difference between the description of 1♠ and that of the double. And what does East's second double show, since its explanation is exactly the same as that of the first double?

Bradley, yeah, I've started another thread about it. Oddly, in that position, GIB doubles the transfer bid to show a sort of takeout of the actual bid suit, instead of the transfer suit.

In one F2F partnership I do something similar. The point being to counter the tactics of those who pass in the next seat to suggest playing there. In that case it doesnt matter much whether the double shows length or shortage in that suit as long as it is not left in doubt.
