a and b are partners
a loses connection and is replaced by robot for board x.
Board x does not show in a's history -- but it does in b's history.
note: board traveler shows robot playing with b.
So --when this happened in a VACB game i directed today, player a was understandably confused.
since board x counts toward a total score, i would think it should show in a's history.
is this by design, or is it an error to be fixed ?

This is by design. We award masterpoints to the player who played most of the boards in a tournament. But history is stored according to the players who actually played each board, not the player who gets the points. So if you get disconnected and don't play a board, it won't show up in your history. If a sub plays the board instead of a robot, it will show up in the sub's history.
If it's a VACB game I think they can see all the boards on the ACBL Live for Clubs site, because they track the plays by partnership, not by individual players, and the partnership is defined by who originally registered.
