So after one robot redoubles my double on its partner's 1NT, redoubler's partner bids 2NT explained as invitational:
1-x-1NT-p
p-x-xx-p
2NT-p-3-a.p.

Meta-rule for GIB: every double is for takeout.

Meta-rule for Argine: every double is for takeout.. by the opponents..

18 opposite 18-19 clearly isn't worth investigating grand on. An unfortunate duplication in spades meant we only had 14 top tricks, rather than 15.

I think you can heart-club squeeze West for a 15th trick in clubs and then a 16th trick in hearts, nice progressive squeeze :)

Maybe Argine should take a lesson from GiB and bid Gerber over 2NT? :)

It looks like the bots still think they play standard blackwood. Either that or they just can't count.

I had the same hand as you a couple of weeks ago, and have just had another where it put me in slam after determining we were missing exactly 2 keycards. I think you're right that it's still playing regular Blackwood despite the alerts.

Despite everything in this thread so far, I'm still staggered by how bad Argine is.

I haven't played for a while but have two beauties from 8 hands - will edit them in after the tourney is closed

Hand 1. At this stage of the auction and apparently Pass was not permitted. So I bid something else and ended in 6-1 :)
https://ibb.co/6tpRwL2 I tried embedding the Image but couldn't

Hand 2 A rather sadly misunderstood and misexplained cue bid - and mysteriously raised to 5 - maybe I should just have bid 3

Hand 1: I think it deserved 5S, what was the explanation for that ? ;)

Hand 2: this is nuts. Wasn't Acol about showing undeclared AKxxx suits when in misfit?

I tried an escape/cue/? by bidding 5 hearts and ended in 6D-1 for a remarkable 42% :)

Check out trick 11, where West decides to bare his king of spades in order to hold onto the irrelevant 13th club - even "knowing" I have the ace for my bid.

What would you bid here?

First we look at the description of 3NT in case it denies a stopper, lebensohl style.. nope, 3NT is to play. (Indeed, 2NT is invitational).

OK, might as well check the description of 3 in case it asks for a stopper.. nope, this shows 11+ HCP, and 5+ spades. I'll try to remember that in a few years time when I get such a hand.

Fine, 3 it is. Argine ends the auction with a 3NT bid.

Bad news. Argine has xxx in spades, and East leads the K from AKJTxx, presumably asking for an unblock.

Good news, West Argine happily signals high-low with its spots to show the queen, blocking the suit, allowing us to make +1.

Bad news, though somewhat expected, that scores 47.68%. If you want to score higher:

- a direct 6 finds a cold 12 tricks, scoring 100%.

- psyching a 5 card spade suit anyway with 3 convinces East to lead a diamond against 3NT, allowing us to cash 13 tricks for 98.01%.

- an option I forgot about, doubling, shows 11+ points and not much else. North will bid 3, and we can then follow up with 3 to specifically ask for a spade stopper, and North will promptly bid.. 3NT anyway. This time Argine only cashes one top spade before switching, so we get 12 tricks for 94.04%.

- someone tried a death-defying pass, resulting in a lucky 3 followup by North, raised to game for 84.11%. This was achieved by 23 people, but I'd expect most were after starting with a double and raising to game.

Ah, Argine.

The robot first makes a splinter and then pass my RKCB bid. Fortunately the opp robot ditches its heart stopper and allows 4NT to make with an overtrick which was 96% as 5 would have made 11 tricks also.

The link seems truncated before end of auction (can't pinpoint the error from this phone)

What on earth?

Probably comes down to the bizarre 2NT definition which was one of the first reports back in December, but even still, 5NT makes no sense at all..

What is usual meaning of 4NT in this "Acol" auction?

Can't see any reason it wouldn't be the usual quantitative.. but no doubt I'll be surprised..

Ok - thanks - wondered if it meant slam in spades.
