Whether this is an opening bid is simply a question of style. It is, for me,min my partnerships but I’m playing a lot with friends these days, and in those irregular partnerships, with more conservative players, I’d probably pass.

I prefer 1♠ to 2♠, but it's close. We can decide to back into the auction with 2♠ later, and we don't really want to play at the 3-level if partner doesn't have support.

You prefer a better suit, ..., but the given strength means, it may be your hand,
1S gives you the best chances to find out, what is going on, having spades means,
you can be calmer.

I would bid 2♠ opposite a passed partner at green. The ODR is on the low side but not bad enough to treat this as a 5 card suit. I understand that for this to be posted, 2♠ probably worked out badly, which makes 1♠ 100% the right forum decision.

For me, 1♠ on this kind of hand promises some hope of game opposite a passed partner.

2s for me. Our chances of getting to 4s (making sacrifice?) are vastly increased when p knows about that 6th spade. If p has no spade fit I am vastly happier the opps have to start exchanging information at the 3 level. P will not always judge perfectly but 2s seems to have a clear advantage over 1s in most circumstances. If p was not a passed hand I would go with 1s.
