Hello! I am confused about Bot's pass. I've been taught that after an opening of 1NT, responder is the "Captain." I interpreted Bots pass of 2D doubled as meaning a bust hand with at least 5 diamonds. That was not the case. I suppose its pass might have been a way to tell me that it did not have a stopper in diamonds, but since I had not shown a 4-card major, it should have presumed that I did and returned to NT. I realize that this particular hand goes down in NT, but I still find the Bot's bid puzzling.

I would appreciate help in understanding Bot's pass in this case. Best regards.

Mike

Many of GIBs sequences are outright broken when someone throws in a double. This is one of them; there's no logical explanation.

To be fair, it's not obvious what the robot should bid here. It planned to bid 3nt, but now that 2 has been doubled it shouldn't bid 3nt without a diamond stopper. Pass, redouble and 3 are all nice bids if partner understands it. I think that pass should show longer diamonds, though.

Agree - neither redouble or 3 is defined for GIB though :( It will in fact pass the double with everything from a 0-count (4450) to (if it weren't a passed hand) a 19 count without a diamond stopper.

lol it makes lol - not sure how but ... and not quite 3NT :)

I haven't run any sims but I think its a logical explanation (at least hypothesis) - its rather sad that it appears to work this way - a few smarts would be an improvement

How about 2NT?
