It is West's turn to bid and there is no bid coming. So you message the table along the lines of West are you there?Nothing happens and you call the TD. The TD (depending whom it is ) will now repeatedly ask West if they are there.
Eventually they will call in a substitute. What a waste of time !
Some TDs ( not many) arrive at the table and realise they wouldn't have been called if West was indeed there and so INSTANTLY replace with a substitute. Personally this is the sort of TD I hope will come to the table.

This sub function could be automated.

We tried but met a lot of resistance from both the players (I'm not bidding because X is not answering, I'm waiting for whatever) and the TDs (likely unconscious fear of being replaced by automation, but they are not hired for their right-click skills anyhow, so it would only leave them more time to focus on stuff like rulings).
Maybe by 2026 the world will be ready
