Well, I'm lost already - 1NT is pretty much non-existent in my book, so I have no idea what partner could possibly mean by it.

XX is values with a clear message "We should do everything we can to defend them doubled" 12-14 balanced is a PASS, don't let them escape. Bidding is a subpar opening.

Undoubtedly, but the bid was 1N (see smerriman's comment) so in the absence of any other agreements what do you assume?; that partner thinks the redouble is a 'bid again'' action?

No, it's I'm minimum and don't actually have clubs, I'd rather not play in a 2-1 or 3-1 club fit redoubled.

For us in this auction, partner either has 5+♣ unless exactly 4414 or 4+ and 15+ points, so the situation is a little different.

Just standard 10+, desire to defend. I don't know why you'd want it to promise both majors, but even if it did, why would partner let them off the hook when it's looking like a juicy penalty?

I’m not sure how many top players still use xx as strength showing. I think it’s become increasingly common to use it as part of a transfer scheme. I haven’t played a penalty redouble for many years and don’t miss it at all.

It’s a rare hand where one can find a lucrative double at the one level. Not impossible, but rare. Meanwhile the ability to use transfers improves many auctions.
