How do you bid this slam in 2/1 ? BTW, should slam be bid at all? :)

One hand from a team match yesterday on BBO.
We lost 11 imps for not bidding this slam, which was bid at the other table (I ignore the sequence they used).
Slam was made on a 2-2 trump split.

Scoring: IMP


At out table bidding went:

1♠:2♥*:2♠:3♥:4♥ all pass.
(* = game forcing)

I was North (the 1S opener), but I recognize the difficulty of my pard to investigate slam given many club losers, possible trumps losers, and not unlikely wasted values in spades from opener.

How would you bid the hand ?
Would you stretch for slam ?

1♠ 2♥(game force) 3♣( DON'T have 6 ♠s for rebid) 3♥ (like 6 ♥s) 4♥ PASS

2nd Q

NO I don't think that slam should be considered -- ( but unfortunately LOTS of times folks BLAST to slam with insufficient values ( or without the means of finding out about contols etc) and find that because :P EVERYTHING is perfect :unsure: the slam rolls home :)

i think the bidding at your table was fine.. yeah the slam makes, but that's *this* time... it's a perfect fit

Your bidding is perfect in my opinion, the slam is far from lucky, althou soem will know the exact %, I think the chances of 2-2 Or a bare honnor with 9 cards is around 72%.

If you need to blame someone blame yourself: you 'could' have bid 4♣ instead of 4♥, at this level this is a cue-bid with ♥ fit, not a new suit, but still you only got 11 HCP...

In the style of 2/1 I am playing (Lawrence / Gitelman), bidding 3♣ over pard's 2♥ shows extras, a hand near a reverse, either in hcp or distribution (say 5.5 losers).

In the same style, rebidding the major after pard's 2/1 is NOT showing eextra length, but simply a waiting bid, say to pard: I cannot bid NT, and have not the requirements to bid a new suit at the 3 level .

So 2 spades was the only bid left.... :(

Bidding is just right imo, and the slam is a bit lucky imo (also don't know the percentages)... You're missing KQ of trumps (which you can play wrong as well - do you cash the Ace, do you finesse 2 times, do you only finesse once,...?), and you don't know about the doubleton ♦ and ♠A. If you don't have specific methods to find out about that, it's risky to go for slam imo.

Bidding 3♣ after the 2♥ GF shows extra's in most 2/1 systems, so I wouldn't advise that.

I think this is right.

Also I suspect that most of us have bigger problems in our game than bidding 24-point slams with a void in partner's main suit ;) ... so I wouldn't worry too much!

I think N bidding was fine, South should have bid 5♦ after 4♥.
71,22% Slam is good enough for me, takes a double finesse at worst.
