Scoring: IMP

Opps don't bid:
Pass-1
2NT-3
All Pass

Should North bid 3NT iso 3 because his 's are good and a potential source of tricks?
Should South bid 3NT after 3 because he has Qxx and 's will therefor be a likely source of tricks?
...or is the bidding ok?

I'd say South. That Q is worth millions.

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

Besides playing for fun, most people also like to play bridge to win

I tried 3 NT with a hand similar to the outh hand some days ago. Works great because they missed the right lead. We had a long discussion whether or not I should have taken the high road, but I was not convinced that it was wrong.

Of course you should order two drinks if 3 NT fails badly. Passing wins every post mortem...
Kind Regards

It would not occur to me with a source of fast tricks to sign off, vulnerable at IMPs with the North hand and it would not occur to me with the South hand not to respect partner's sign-off after having given a good description of the hand.
After all North can see the vulnerability just as much as South.

North hand is the very type of hand where 3NT makes with few HCP.
If North had the KQ in instead of the ace, 3NT is more likely to go down.

Aces are underrated even at 3NT.

North had an obvious 3N bid with a source of tricks and a side ace.

Look at it this way, you want to be in game opposite xxx Axx xxx Axxx, and game is nearly cold opposite xxx Axx xxxx Axx. Hopefully this illustration shows you how powerful ace+ trick source combinations can be.
