Both red and playing an imp match, annoying RHO opens 3 in first seat.

You hold :
Scoring: IMP
.

Do you step into the fray [double] or stay warm and dry [pass]?

I pass and hope to act later. If I double I will never convince partner that I hold so few spades.

AK is often better than xxx but we have too many hearts to need to act now, pass and await, I'd be more inclined to double with 2245

pass. It's not like we'll bid later. 3 will be the final contract 90+% of the time. That's life, I hope we'll beat it and get a plus score. If I x we won't.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

indeed. seems like a textbook pass.

the real problem is if pard reopens with dbl (to which I think I'll pass again).

I only start doubling on awkward hands with a doubleton in the other major at about 18, with less I think it's too risky. If partner reopens with a double I'll try 4NT to play in his better minor.

As always, I have a followup question!

Try to ignore the previous poll

In 4th position you hold
Scoring: IMP

The auction goes: (3)-Double-Pass- and now it's your turn....what's your bid?

Thanks as always to responders...

LOL I didn't see the double (or was it not there when I answered?), I thought it was 3 p p. Change that from easy pass to 3.

I think Xing even if you had another ace would be bad. Just go plus on these hands imo.

I know you told me Rodwell passed there with like 21 or something. Still when it has come up it has worked out fine for me, I'm not inclined to change. It can definitely reach a game we otherwise won't find.
