Scoring: XIMP

You are sitting South:
1C-(3S)-?
I doubled because i don't think my partner will pass my double at this vulnerability and positon. My plan is to rebid 4D if partner bid 3nt or 4C.
What will you bid?

I can see why nobody wants to be the first poster on this one!

I would want to be in game, and I think that 4D is nonforcing. Maybe in theory it shouldn't be, but I would guess that most would take it that way (unless they play negative free bids.)

Maybe double and then bid 5D over 3NT or 4C.
I tend to lead fourth best - as opposed to the best suit, the second best suit, or the third best suit for our side

Well, I am not bashful. Misho and I play meta bids (lots of post on this forum about them), but now only after preempts. Playing this way, a double here would be sort of like THRUMP, or a minor one suiter. We bid 4 as forcing -ohter major two suiter. So I have with him, and easy 4 bid.

Not playing meta, it is a bear. I think I go with dbl, but not overjoyed with it.

If opener bids 3N I don't think 4D can be non forcing, Paul. This seems to me too much like trying to stop on the head of a pin. Hopefully pd has the nous to bid a decent 3 card H suit if he has one, as 3N should have definitely denied 4H.
So for me, X and then 4D
If pd does happen to bid 4H, I'm not moving and if they got me, then they got me.

I agree with Paul that 4 should be non-forcing.

I think that there are many more hands where you need to show a few values and something worth bidding than GF hands that want to force beyond 3NT.

Most GF hands with diamonds can start with a THRUMP double or shoot 3NT.

Having said that I am also into the meta-bid style of Misho and Ben. I predict that my partner and I will be playing 4 shows this hand by the time that she replies to my email.

4minor is such a useless natural bid.

Whoops having read Ron's reply I now understand that Paul meant that 4!d after 3NT was non-forcing.

I have a partnership rule that covers this situation.

I NEVER pull 3NT to 4minor with a bad hand.

This post says it all.

I absolutely agree.

Dbl should be ok. I am not worrying too much opp will get me. many good things can happen. Pd can pass, i have two aces, and a potential ruff in c. If pd bid 3N, i will pass happily. My d suit is running quite rightly, my sjack is a good card for 3N. if pd bid 4c, i will try 4d, then pd may get to 4H.

Double... I'll probably hear 3NT, but if I don't my problems are solved.

I think this hand has slam potential.
I double, then show my 2 suits.
I want to be in slam in a red suit.

"Slam potential" - Yes!

But "I want to be in slam" - No!

We have six losers. Partner needs to cover five of these for slam. They can be covered by high cards or a ruffing value in his short red suit and possibly by a finesse.

On average I do not expect that a simple opening bid in one of our short suits will cover this many losers.

I will not bid a slam unless partner shows a good hand.
