definitely pass.  I don't want partner leading spades against their heart contract, and I don't want to give opps any distributional clues to help them play the hand, so 1 and michaels are both out, and I'm not preempting 2 or 3 on this, either, at unfavorable.

How about them leading something against your 4S contract?

If you were playing with yourself (and I'm not implying that you are), then I'm sure you already overcalled 1 spade with your partner's hand, so let's rule that one out in favor of more probable hands, mmkay?

rofl. Good catch Chris and you are quite right, I would have overcalled 1S with that. However, you get the point I think.

with spades later?
;)

If you overcall 3, I don't think you should bid again. The main purpose of a weak jump overcall is to take away their bidding space, in the hope that the end up in the wrong contract. It seems silly to do that and then assume that they've guessed right.

Playing normal Michaels cue-bids, I'd bid 3 at all white or favourable. If I could show specifically spades and clubs, I'd do that, because the chance of finding a good save is higher.

... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Pard overcalled infront of their opening? :P

I'd overcall with this hand, I appreciate it could go badly for us tho.
