Cue bid - what is expert standard?

Playing standard cues. (Ace,King,Singleton,Void)
In an auction where the first cue is in partners first bid suit, what agreement do you have, what exactly are you showing?

I believe the expert standard for a cue in partner's main suit is either A/K/Q.

I would expect the A or the K.....I don't play on the circuit so I may be out of touch, but I think cuebidding the Queen would not be viewed as 'standard'...that's not the same as saying it would be 'wrong' or 'bad' and, as I say, I may be incorrect anyway. I do think that there is a strong argument that it ought not to be shortness if made as the first cue.

Normally Ace or King.

Exception: Might be singleton (or Void) if the cuebidder have either:

- Certain knowledge of ten thrumph's in the combined hands (Quite unlikely here.)
- A hand where you feel confident partners suit need not be established.

An example hand of the second type:

Kx
x
KQJ10x
AJxxx

I wont preclude other exceptions, but they dont spring to mind.

I would expect:
- A/K/Q in
- Isn't 4 denying a control?
- I think I would RKC with you example hand

In general Ace or king, but as Ole said there are exceptions that allow a singleton, some form of extras normally.

for example on this hand dealer could have A x QJxxxx AKQxx or even a bit less also.

Ace or king. I would need a discussion (or to be looking at the AK) before assuming a queen was possible.

Yes, bad example hand, written in a hurry. I still consider the points valid however.
