I like my intermediates, but we might be able to find a Rexford 3N with 11 opposite 12 after I pass.

Another open or not dilemma. This one does seem more of a style issue, as one normally doesn't open flat, defensive 11-counts without majors. Even if you decide to open, you'll have to choose whether to make a 1♣ lead director or to go with 1♦, the book opening on some systems.
I don't think this is worth opening, even at matchpoints, but practice tells us otherwise, as there's a thin, making, spade game that many of the field reached and made. It's hard to tell what might happen if North is left to open his hand 3rd seat, but I believe it will be easier to reach game if you make that waffer-thing opener, so that gets the higher score.
Agree it's not the best problem, though.

Anyone opening the south hand is bonkers. After 1C 1S 1NT I expect my partner to bid 3NT with any non 4333 12 count. This less than 50% spade game making is absolutely resulting.

It also makes pard's life easier when I open something other that 1NT - he knows I can't have a crap bal 11 count.
