On the entry fees issue for my €200, got 250 boards, 100 of qually, 100 of semifinal B (from there, 6 to final A), 50 of final B.
For those playing final A, will be 52 boards more, today, Saturday. (in the Open. Not sure in Women).

So the majority of players will pay €0.80 per board in the pairs.

In the Open teams, playing in a team of four, the majority paid €237 each for - 70 boards in the round robin (60 boards for one group) and 70 boards in the Swiss. A cost of €1.69 per board. The cost/board is the same for a team of six, as you pay less but play fewer boards. Only if you reached the final of the teams do you approach the cost/board of the pairs.

As I've said, the pairs was a lot better value.

I don't agree with this, but then I don't agree that all boards are of equal 'value' and hence cost/board is the relevant number.
I paid €200 Euros (800/4) to play in the mixed teams, for which I got a minimum of 100 boards (50 in the round robin, 50 in the Swiss). These were all serious or semi-serious matches, many of them against good teams.
For the same money, I then got another 2 days of KO matches (and would have got a third if we'd only won the semi-final) but I agree that's a bonus.

To play in the pairs I agree I only pay €135 Euros, and for that I am guaranteed 4 days of 50 boards/day so much more bridge - but much of that is random and boring. You have to play 70 boards just to decide if you are allowed to play in semi-final A or semi-final B. Then you have to play another 70 boards to decide if you are allowed to play in the final or not. For much of that, for most people many of the boards will be irrelevant because they will have got to the point of having no chance of qualifying (or will be definitely in).

Maybe this is just my preference for playing imps coming through.

Hey, in "The debate" in "English Bridge" a few years back it was you who argued that matchpoints is the best form of bridge. I thought your arguments were much better than those of your opponent, btw :)
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket
