is it possible to create an icon which shows that you are connected to the Bridgebase server?

I am not sure I understand exactly what you mean. If you would like to put a shortcut to BBO on your desktop, you can try to create an icon like this video shows:

I think the goal is to avoid the state where you're lagging and think everyone else stopped responding. So, some sort of heartbeat indicator, showing that your client is still in touch with the server.

If you lose contact with the server, I think you'll get a message to that effect and go back to the login screen.

From my experience, either BBO has multiple (geographically far away) servers or the time out is quite long. In any case, I was stuck in that limbo as well, though usually when I see my client is having an issue showing people's profiles I add two and two and reconnect.

I don't know how many frontend servers there are but I am quite convinced they are all located in Texas.

Texas. Nevada

FYP.

Anyway if some of us always receive notification when disconnected while others (like me) can be hanging for minutes without notification I would expect it to be a client-side issue.

Sorry Helene, but what makes you think they are in Nevada? I think that is pretty much impossible given the information available at http://www.softlayer...twork-overview/

thank you for responding Diana.

When playing in competition eventually realize that I am disconnected. Sometimes soon enough to log off and rejoin, but at times realize too late to rejoin.

If an icon existed to show connection status could avoid this.

Regards and thanks for your very good work.

OK, thank you for clarifying. Yes, it's a good suggestion :) The programmers will know whether it's possible or not.

Until then, the easiest way to check if it's your connection at fault, or the other players are indeed slow, is to type something on chat, or click a profile. If the chat doesn't show, or the profile doesn't load, it's your connection.

when testing the connection I chat a "." to kibitzers. Chatting to table may be seen as rude as it suggests that I am annoyed about slow play.
