Playing teams, do you agree with N/S bidding?

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

Ouch. I would duplicate this auction.

South had automatic X. From there I would expect 4N-5C-5D-5H-p

North needs South to have about four of five cover cards, as the short spade is obvious. That means that he needs three covers and a void or four covers.

South's 5 call is the sole reason why North probably loses ambition. Had South bid 5 to preference a red suit, North is good enough, IMO, to venture to slam.

South perhaps should smell this potential and take some creative risk.

Thus, in a serious example of post-mortem influenced heavily by seeing both hands, I would still argue that a theoretically sound auction might be:

X-4NT
5-5NT

"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

South has to double 4. The chances of them stealing vs bidding to make are very high and -590 (or even -690) isn't the end of the world.

In my partnership -5 imps is the playing around range and you can't pull this double without an expectation of going plus.

It's not at all clear if we would find the slam, in fact probably not unless we get a 5 bid and a forcing pass opportunity.

I don't care about missing this slam, it's not like I would have automatically bid it if I had opened the bidding either.
