I voted for pass, but of course this type of hand is an advertisement for playing 1♠ (or double) as meaning "I want to bid but don't have a suitable hand & strength for any natural call"

I voted for pass, and I don't know that this type of hand is an advertisement for anything.

I voted for 2♦ 'cause the OP advertised his system allows him to bid a non-forcing 2♦.

2♦ still looks light for the OP system, though I did consider it at some length. Red was amongst the deciding factors for me.

It depends on system. As Frances says the book bid here with the most common agreements is pass. There are alternatives though. She gives two - 1♠ or X to show values and no bid - and a third is to play X here as a 1♦ response, Stolen Bid style. I do not really understand playing 2♦ as a NFB but with a lower limit of 8. Also, what does one bid with a GF hand and diamonds? You probably understand your own methods better than we do to be honest. As presented so far it seems that the only 2 realistic options are Pass and 2♦ - whether this hand qualifies for 2♦ is a matter of partnership agreement rather than any fine judgement.

I voted for pass, but now I like 2♦. Even though we are a point light we have a good five card suit and three card club support.

If the agreement is 2 ♦ shows about 9-12, then I see no reason to violate it with this 9 loser hand.

2d = 8/9-12 5+ dia


AKTxx and out seems to meet the intent of the rule if not the exact definition
hard to imagine having the spade J would qualify this hand for 2d but not having
it forbids its use. I even have some clubs in case p feels the need to run from dia.

I voted for pass, since this is the bid with this hand with the prescribed methods.

I prefer to play 1♠ as 4+ ♠ and the response I would have made is double as Negative, only promising the unbid minor and the inability to bid 1NT, 1♠, or raise clubs. Mostly something like this hand.

While that Diamond suit has AKTxx, that's it. Pass for me - add the 9 or the Jack to that Diamond suit so it has 6 cards, and then I will bid 2♦.

pass, looks like a balanced 7 count to me.
not between 9 and 12

BUT if pard bids 2d, fair enough, lets move on please.
