Had great fun in the bar tonight watching the last few boards of the GNTs.

I could like this bar!!!!

I almost didn't stay for the last hand, what a mistake that would have been. I'm in the Men's room today, a guy comes in and asks "Was the bridge exciting enough for you last onnight?"

Insane how good the field is in the spingold this year wtf. Maybe doesn't help that our likely draws are the nut low lol.

Anyways, hope we win our R64 match, then we can talk about bocchi-madala (who beat me in the vandy).

Looks like an incredible field of foreign stars, even more than the last few years.

Can anyone post that GNT last hand?

Quick "man-could-we-get-a-worse-draw" story:

Missed Q'ing for d2 of the LM pairs by < 1/2 a board, play the Saturday AM KO and get KO'd in r1. Seriously not having the best few sessions, right?

So we go to play the "loser swiss": just the one-session Swiss on Saturday afternoon. r1 I sit down and have Allan Graves on my right and Richie Schwartz on my left with Baldursson and Jonsson at the other table. We lose that match by like 16 including a slam swing where only one of two reasonable lines works, so it felt closer than it was, especially since the round was only 6 boards. So we go for round 2, and I have Nick Demirev on my right and Jeff Wolfson on my left, with Steve Garner and Jack Oest at the other table. Oof -- tough draw for a loser swiss!

In the ACBL main team events the sponsors play usually at the same table, if they both take part in a particular quarter of the match.
Is there some kind of unwitten rule, respectively a gentlemen's agreement.... or it will be really decided so (or not) by the captains in every single match.?

Spingold is going really fine so far, and tomorrow we are (hopefully) going to have Lynch for lunch :)

We survived an unusual disaster against Amoils today (won by 4):

I am confused. The link says that Amoils have advanced to play against Lynch and Denmark are out. Is there a story here or just a mistake?

In the Round of 16 I see 5. Lynch against 12. Amoils, to play against the winner of Cayle vs Onstott. Do you see something different when you click the link?

Edit: quoted in full before the previous post was ninja-edited.

again not quoted in full

all I can say is misprint or appeal not shown.

I can say bbo member expects to play(denmark team)

in any event good point.....
I see other misprint...minor but still they give one team a tiny error in regards to org seed.

I'd pass. Doubling is quite risky, and the upside isn't that great. RHO appears to have extra values, so if they end up in game it's unlikely that we'll beat them on any lead. If they're going to bid slam, I may get a chance to double diamonds at a safer level.

To make a sensible decision, I really need to know what their methods are after a double. If I knew they couldn't redouble for blood, double would be more attractive. If I knew that they hadn't discussed continuations at all, I definitely would double. However, I can't find this out without inflicting UI on partner (assuming the ACBL is still playing its premier teams events without screens), and anyway the opponents don't have to answer questions about hypothetical future actions.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

I have never seen anyone play in 3XX after a 2NT showing a 5-4 fit in a major ever. So until it happens to someone I am not going to fear that.
I tried the dubious double, because I thought I couldn't stand a black suit lead - certainly not a spade.

Well done mike777 who guessed the theme. I hit partner with SIX diamonds, but after the double I suspect declarer thought I also had the length in diamonds so he finessed my partner for Qxx to make 6. It felt annoying because with 6 or maybe even five very strong diamonds, I could have made a 3 overcall after 2NT nv vs vul to insure the lead.

You're not betting $ on the outcome of an ACBL event, are you? :-)

Edited to add a smiley; I was just teasing.
