Perhaps I'm playing too much MP, but I'd bid 2...

Same for me: 2.
I'm afraid I wouldn't even consider it as a problem, but after seeing what experts do: I would better change this attitude, but I still bid 2.
I play a lot of MP, we also play weaker overcalls than average, and our opponentsare mostly not very strong. Because of that:
- Probability of a penalty DBL is low
- Opponents have more problems with intervention than experts would have
- my partner knows that we overcall (even on weaker suits) with weak suits and/or less points. He will not hang me.
- I like a lead by my partner, certainly against a NT contract.

From reading/watching world class matches I've certainly seen doubles & overcalls getting more aggressive in the last few years. Lauria/Versace are wildly aggressive.

You have to be on the same wavelength as partner, however. If he's expecting a classical 1444 13-count and you make a take-out double on this there will be a disaster. If he knows you play double as "I don't want to get stolen from" there won't be.
