Me and partner have very differen opinions about a bid and I like good players to interpret following. I made a takeoutdouble over a 3D opening. My partner bid 4D. What hand would that show. I will tell later what happened after getting some opinions about the meaning of his bid.

It could be a very good hand or it could be a hand with two places to play. E.g. 4225 could bid 4D then pull 4H to 4S to show spades+clubs (and not a strong hand with spades), if this is what you agreed to. I like the general principle that finding a playable game is more important than showing slam tries in various strains. Either way, doubler should bid his cheapest 4-card suit and see what's up.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

The 4 bid says pick a major. If partner has a huge hand, he will bid again after we pick a major.

I play pick a major. Advancer bids again with a good hand after openers choice.

I use to play two places to play, but then partner forgot and though my run out of spades to the minor was a slam try and we had a disaster, so I now go with the simpler pick a major.

"2 or 3 places to play" is a useful agreement.

very useful as over pre-empts partner may be forced to double on less than ideal shape because level is so high

Pick a Major.
