I quit smoking in 1968 - well, with the exception of one time in 1972, but the choking and hacking then really cemented it for me. For years after that, being around smokers didn't bother me, but sometime in the late '80s I lost that tolerance. As for the killing people bit, in one sense I figure if somebody wants to kill himself that way, that's his problem. OTOH, "second hand smoke" is a real problem. So if someone wants to kill himself by smoking, that's his problem, so long as his smoking doesn't harm anyone else. IOW, he better not do it where anyone else is around, or where his smoke might be trapped to affect someone who shows up later.
