Looks better to me. Still have a vacant 2D opening.

It is leaning towards playing 2D as a normal weak two, but we'll allow a good five card suit first seat non-vul (and also in third seat).

Or you could say [ ... and responder has 5S and 4H, and both are weak ... ] that 2 is Ekrens with at least 54xx. Use it to fill holes. I play natural weak2 and Ekrens (with different partners!) and prefer Ekrens. Yes, 2 is forcing if you want to include a strong option (mine is 21+ 3-suiter).

I play Ekrens 2 as weak or GF in one partnership, but the opening is still NOT forcing. I'd pass 2 with 12 hcp, 2263, for example. Why wouldn't you? :)

Maybe because partner may be a 24 count 4144? If 2 does not have a strong option then pass is an option. Partner did once have a long diamond hand and passed, but of course I did have the strong option.

So you don't think Pass has the highest expected value on the hand type I gave?

FWIW (not much, I guess), here are 100 random weak-or-GF Ekrens 2 deals where Responder has 12 hcp, 2263:
